A Message from Your SNA President-Elect

April is here and this is often when we begin to think about spring and the new life it brings, yet as I am writing this I am stuck at the Sioux Falls Regional Airport in South Dakota while they clear the runway of thick snowpack. I know I am not alone with my frustration over the weather and delays, and many of you have had similar travel experiences you wish to forget.

The best laid plans do not always happen, and being volunteers and leaders, we’ve learned how to roll with the changes. Flexibility is necessary in everything we do whether it be flying, serving meals to students, or finding the right items for customers. My hats off to all of you for the multiple times you have had to be flexible with your time for SNA.

To be honest with you I never imagined I would be in my current leadership role moving into the Presidency with SNA, until I attended my first national conference back in the early 2000s. Then I caught the “bug.” I’ve learned that we all have different traits and skills that make us unique, and it’s important to not compare ourselves to others. We are who we are. When one is selected for leadership or inspired to volunteer for more involvement, we need to trust and believe in ourselves. As I have served over the past several years, I have met many wonderful people in our industry, and want to challenge you to think about what inspires you to get involved. Your talents are your own and we need your unique experiences to make all of us better. Your leadership means multiple things to the association, starting with how each of you share your expertise in your profession. As you connect with other members and build on your relationships, know that everyone in SNA values and respects your expertise. There are many opportunities to get involved, and for those of you who have interest in future leadership, please let us know at SNA so that we may add you to the database.

Maybe leadership isn’t something you ever considered, or you thought it may be in the distant future, but be flexible with your plans and consider how you can grow with this organization.

We are currently preparing to meet in Long Beach at the end of the month for our annual National Leadership Conference. Volunteer leaders from across the nation are invited to attend as they prepare for their year/years of service in their home state. Volunteer leaders are very important to all of us involved with SNA. I personally want to thank each of you with your volunteerism and leadership within SNA at the state and/or national level.

Spring appears to be flexible with its plans, too. By the time you will be reading this, the Midwest will be covered in yet another thick blanket of snow while other parts of the country experience out-of-season heat waves. As always, I will work to be flexible with whatever happens and accept I am not in control. But, I will do whatever I can to stay positive and find solutions. Above all, I will take care of my students. Thank you for your flexibility and maintaining a very important role in the leadership and growth of our wonderful association.

Gay Anderson, SNS

Exhibitor Registration & Housing
Online Exhibitor Registration is now open. SNA has planned an outstanding series of education sessions and General Sessions for its upcoming Annual National Conference. We encourage you to attend these sessions and learn more about the child nutrition industry. Each company receives five (5) complimentary badges per 10x10 booth space purchased. Once your company goes over their badge allotment, there is a $125 fee for additional badges. No badges, above your allotment will be processed without payment. Online registration allows you to make changes and additions to your badge order up until the time the site closes on Friday, June 30, 2018. Badges will not be mailed, but are available for pick up onsite at the registration desk at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center.

This year’s procedures require all Exhibitors to register for badges before they will be provided access to the SNA housing system and the discounted rates at the official ANC 2018 hotels.
