SNA Membership Numbers hit 58,000!
SNA’s membership numbers have been steadily rising in recent years, but in April we reached 58,073. This the highest our membership has been in over 15 years! Also, the Major City Director and District Director membership categories now stand 525 and 5,754. This is an increase of 67 and 330 respectively since May 2015 year-end and again some of the highest numbers we have seen in many years. We hope to see these trends continue.

Attention industry representatives: Make sure to check out the ANC 2016 pre-conference session on Saturday, July 9, from 1:00-5:00 pm. Entitled Let’s Talk: “Real Time” with Industry and USDA Child Nutrition Programs (CNP), this session will provide an overview of CNP meal programs and how the Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGAs) impact nutrition and meal pattern requirements. Industry will gain a better understanding of policy guidance for developing products that meet CNP requirements for school meals, child care, and Smart Snacks. This session will also provide a step-by-step review on how to develop acceptable documentation for Administrative Reviews (CN Labeling and Product Formulation Statements). In addition, the session will allow an opportunity for USDA and industry leaders to discuss ways to exchange views and develop collaborative strategies.

The Exhibitor Service Kit will assist you with the rental of utilities, furniture, services and accessories. Your organization must be in good standing with SNA (all balances paid) in order to receive the link to the Exhibitor Service Kit. New Product Showcase
Enhance your visibility at ANC by displaying your product in the New Produce Showcase. Display new products, services and equipment just outside the exhibit hall in a high traffic area. Culinary Demonstrations: Only One Spot Left!
Culinary Demonstrations provide an opportunity to showcase your latest food products, recipes, techniques, nutrition and food presentation skills, and offer ways to enhance school meals and increase participation. The one remaining space is available for purchase at $3,300. You must be exhibiting at ANC in order to present.

SNA has planned an outstanding series of education sessions and General Sessions in addition to Exhibit Hall time. We encourage you to attend these sessions and learn more about the child nutrition industry. Each company receives five (5) complimentary badges per 10x10 booth space purchased. Additional badges are $100 each and will not be processed without payment. Online registration allows you to make changes and additions to your badge order up until site closing Thursday, June 30, 2016. (Badges will not be mailed, but available for pick up onsite at the registration desk at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center).

New this year, all exhibitors must register for badges before they will be provided access to the SNA housing system and the discounted rates at the official ANC 2016 hotels. This change in procedure is designed to help the Association better control the inventory of available rooms, ensuring that a greater number of exhibitors will have the opportunity to book their first-choice hotels on their preferred dates and still receive SNA’s discounted rates.

EPIC/Expo Logic (our official registration company) will forward you a confirmation receipt that will contain a confirmation number and the link to the housing site.
Click on the housing site link within the confirmation receipt and you will be able to reserve your hotel rooms.

Certificate of Insurance
It is mandatory for all companies exhibiting at ANC 2016 to carry worker’s compensation, comprehensive general liability (including products & operations), independent contractors, personal injury and blanket contractual liability. It is strongly recommended that exhibitors carry insurance to cover loss of or damage to their exhibits or other personal property while such property is located at or is in transit to or from the convention center. You cannot access your booth until SNA receives the Certificate of Insurance (COI). Please provide your COI to SNA by May 31, 2016.

Legislative & Regulatory Update
USDA Requests Industry Support of Buy American Requirements
In a May 2nd letter to school nutrition industry stakeholders, USDA Under Secretary Kevin Concannon requested assistance in educating sales and bid staff on Buy American Requirements. Under the NSLA, schools participating in the Federal school meal program are required to purchase domestic supplies and produce. The requirement will help promote American agriculture and will improve the ties between schools, students and American producers.
USDA Extends Whole-Grain Rich Exemptions for SY 2016-17
USDA released a memo (SP33-2016) to regional and state directors which supersedes the earlier whole grain exemption memo (SP20-2015). All temporary flexibilities approved by a state agency under this superseded memo may continue through the school year 2016-17, at the discretion of the state agency. This memo serves to reissue the previous guidance intended to help state agencies establish their own processes to evaluate and respond to whole grain exemption requests from interested school food authorities (SFAs) for one additional school year. The memo includes a Q&A that should address any questions. SNA encourages members to reach out to their state agencies for further guidance.
