A Message from Your SNA Industry Representative
The Legislative Action Conference (LAC) was amazing with great speakers and insights. 2016 is a critical year as we continue to build a path toward a sustainable future for our children. It was great seeing so many of you there!

As we heard at LAC, CNR may not occur this year due to all that is going on in Washington, D.C. on the Hill, including a new Administration after the election. It was encouraging to see the commitment on the part of the Senate and House staffers to getting CNR passed regardless of the turmoil.

The highlight for me, however, was the truly inspirational School Nutrition Foundation Hero Celebration. We are so blessed to be in a channel of business with so many selfless and caring individuals. Like all of you, I am always touched by their stories; how they looked at a need and rushed to it with love, compassion and a solution. I know you join me in thanking them for being so caring and showing the rest of us that it all starts by just taking that first step.

As we head into spring break and beyond, let's remember to keep the procurement process top of mind. Remind your customers that bid specs need to be exact to the product they want. The quantities need to be reflective of their usage and need. And most importantly, they need to send all stakeholders the Bid Award information and notify their distributor 60 days in advance of their back to school order.

Thanks for all you do,

Gary D. Vonck

It is mandatory for all companies exhibiting at ANC 2016 to carry worker’s compensation, comprehensive general liability (including products & operations), independent contractors, personal injury and blanket contractual liability. It is strongly recommended that exhibitors carry insurance to cover loss of or damage to their exhibits or other personal property while such property is located at or is in transit to or from the convention center. Exhibitor Registration
SNA has planned an outstanding series of education sessions and General Sessions in addition to Exhibit Hall time. We encourage you to attend these sessions and learn more about the child nutrition industry. Each company receives five (5) complimentary badges per 10x10 booth space purchased. Additional badges are $100 each and will not be processed without payment. Online registration allows you to make changes and additions to your badge order up until site closing Thursday, June 30, 2016. (Badges will not be mailed, but available for pick up onsite at the registration desk at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center). Please register for your booth badges through EPIC.

Exhibitor Housing
New this year, all exhibitors must register for badges before they will be provided access to the SNA housing system and the discounted rates at the official ANC 2016 hotels. This change in procedure is designed to help the Association better control the inventory of available rooms, ensuring that a greater number of exhibitors will have the opportunity to book their first-choice hotels on their preferred dates and still receive SNA’s discounted rates.

  1. You MUST register for your badge first.

  2. EPIC/Expo Logic (our official registration company) will forward you a confirmation receipt that will contain a confirmation number and the link to the housing site.

  3. Click on the housing site link within the confirmation receipt and you will be able to reserve your hotel rooms.

If you wish to reserve a block of rooms, please call Conference Direct/the SNA Housing Call Center at (877) 440-7549; Monday to Friday, 9 am–5 pm (EST) or email sna@conferencedirect.com.

Legislative & Regulatory Update

Advocating for School Meals
Recently, nearly 900 school nutrition professionals gathered at SNA’s Legislative Action Conference 2016 in Washington, D.C. to share their passion and expertise with Capitol Hill lawmakers and to urge Congress to swiftly pass a robust Child Nutrition Reauthorization Bill. There was plenty of buzz related to the important work ahead, as well as the new location for the conference—the newest and largest hotel in the nation’s capital—the Marriott Marquis. Read more about it here.

U.S House Committee on Appropriations Holds Department of Agriculture Budget Hearing
On Wednesday, February 24, the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations, held a budget hearing for the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Food and Nutrition Service. USDA Under Secretary of Food, Nutrition and Consumer Services, Kevin Concannon was present as a witness. During the hearing Representative Aderholt stressed the importance of a delay to the implementation of Target 2 sodium regulations set to go into effect in SY 2017-18. He was adamant that schools would require this flexibility even if a Child Nutrition Reauthorization bill is not passed this year. Several other child nutrition issues were addressed including food waste, the Buy America provision and CEP. Click here to watch the full hearing.
