The State’s Role in Implementing Local Wellness Policies
A glaring omission from Section 204 of the Child Nutrition and Women, Infants, and Children Reauthorization Act is any federal enforcement mechanism; thus, it is entirely up to the states and school food authorities to implement and enforce local wellness policies. With so much leeway, states have taken different approaches to ensuring compliance with the law. This session will examine some exemplary approaches.
WELLNESS: MIND, BODY AND SOUL

Connecting Classroom, Cafeterias, Farmers and Parents
This presentation will demonstrate how to collaborate with teachers, parents and local farmers to address school wellness policy nutrition education efforts. Participants will see the benefits of using consistent messaging to reinforce health messages in several environments and increase the consumption of fruits and vegetables in school meals.
Fitness Is Forever
This session will review school wellness implementation in Nevada, a largely rural state with a diversity of population extremes. With a commitment to Nevada’s children, shareholders statewide chose to step upon a path leading to the enhancement of school wellness opportunities.
